  • Overview

    The Seminar Network seeks a Research Associate to join the team. The Research Associate is an integral member of the TSN’s fundraising team responsible for identifying, researching, and analyzing prospects for major gift cultivation and solicitation. This research and analysis serves as the foundation of TSN’s fundraising campaigns and directly contributes to the campaigns’ success. The Research Associate will also expand upon existing research and profile data and analyze new and existing data.

    Responsibilities

    Prospect identification, research and analysis

    • Conduct prospect research by using internet, print, and electronic sources as well as in-house files and documents, and interviews with fundraising staff and volunteers. Specific attention required to matters relating to wealth, giving capacity, philanthropic inclination and ideological alignment.
    • Investigate new potential member leads, identify connections, and develop new information on our existing supporters.
    • Write organized reports on prospective and current members (in-depth donor research profiles, biographies, project summaries) using style, grammar and content appropriate to specific audiences.
    • Interpret and translate complex financial, legal and corporate language into easily comprehensible terms while adhering to TSN’s standards of discretion and confidentiality.
    • Extract and communicate key information which directs cultivation and solicitation strategies.

     

    Research process optimization

    • Work closely with the Research Manager to develop and enforce policies and procedures related to prospect research, including donor confidentiality, ethics, electronic information management and the prospect management system.
    • Work closely with the Research Manager to identify new research techniques, tools, emerging technologies, strategies, sources and other developments in the field.
    • Collaborate with the Research Management team to devise database enhancements, process improvements, and enhanced data quality assurance techniques.

     

    Other duties

    • Provide the team with additional research and support as necessary.
    • Other duties as determined by candidate’s skills, knowledge, and interests.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree or relevant years of work experience preferred.
    • 1 – 3 years of direct prospect research experience in a fundraising department. Alternatively, 3 years of experience in research, communications, fundraising, or business development.
    • Knowledge of standard industry resources that include: iWave, Lexis Nexis, Wealth Engine, Foundation Center etc.
    • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office Suite and database applications including Excel and Access.
    • Salesforce or other CRM system, FEC Data analytics experience preferred.
    • Commitment to free enterprise and free market principles.
    • Strong analytic and problem-solving capability.
    • Strong strategic abilities, highly organized and detail-oriented, as well as curious and resourceful.
    • Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral.
    • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while integrating a high degree of attention to detail and organization.
