Overview

The Seminar Network is seeking a Vice President/Controller to lead its 25-person team, which provides accounting services for over a dozen organizations.  The ideal candidate will have experience as a successful team leader, have strong accounting skills, be very proactive in their approach to their role, and show the ability to work with team members at all levels.  They will have experience putting in place processes and controls that will improve the timeliness, accuracy and completeness of financial information.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the accounting organization using Market Based Management®. Model and drive a culture that exemplifies MBM® guiding principles.  Focus on developing members of the team to maximize the team’s contribution to the mission of The Seminar Network
  • Develop a team with strong customer focus and entrepreneurial mindset. Drive improvements and efficiencies to various systems and processes for a newly integrated capability
  • Oversee the monthly financial reporting process
  • Provide effective and timely financial data to the Financial Planning and Analysis team and support them in their various analytical needs
  • Provide support to internal customers at network organizations
  • Coordinate agendas and activities of audit committees
  • Develop the annual plan for the accounting department
  • Provide oversight and participate in the preparation of financial information for annual external audits
  • Lead the preparation of tax returns and other regulatory filings
  • Oversee banking relationships and coordination of treasury activities for the various organizations
  • Lead all activities related to financial compliance, ensuring that we are always adhering to applicable laws and regulations
  • Assesses risk in accounting and financial processes and establishes appropriate controls
  • Supervise development and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures, and related documentation
  • Drive standardization of financial policies and procedures for all supported organizations
  • Keeps management aware of emerging accounting pronouncements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • CPA preferred
  • 10+ years or progressively responsible, relevant experience
  • Experience successfully managing large teams
  • Non-profit experience preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to compliance
  • Entrepreneurial attitude with a bias toward action
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, environment
  • A passion for advancing free and open societies
